ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — Assemblyperson Anna Kelles wants to put a temporary stop to cryptocurrency mining operations.
She’s co-sponsored a bill that would create a three-year moratorium. Kelles acknowledges that cryptocurrency isn’t going anywhere, but she’s concerned about its effect on the environment.
Kelles says the impact of cryptocurrency mining on air quality and water is intense.
Lawmakers in Seneca and Schuyler Counties have both passed resolutions requesting the state regulate mining operations.
