GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — The Greenville ENC Alliance is looking to clear up some misconceptions surrounding a proposed data processing project.
Compute North is looking to build a facility in Pitt County. The effort has been met with protest by some community members who don’t want the facility in the area. UConda Dunn, vice president for business development with Greenville ENC, is working with the company on its efforts to locate in Greenville.
Dunn said Wednesday this would be a date processing facility and not a cryptocurrency operation. While people have expressed concern over noise, Dunn said the project would follow all local laws and regulations.
“This company has done sound studies at various locations around the proposed sites that they are looking at to ensure that it will not exceed any decibels outside our city ordinances,” Dunn said. “It is illegal for any operations to be over the allotted decibels within our jurisdiction.”
The Greenville City Council will meet Thursday to vote on a text amendment related to data processing facilities. A group of concerned citizens who protested at the council’s meeting on Monday has stated it will hold another protest on Thursday with several organizations, including the Pitt County NAACP.
