28% US adults own cryptocurrency and 25% plan to invest in it : Huobi’s survey

Seychelles-based cryptocurrency exchange Huobi conducted an in-depth survey recently to study the perception of an average US adult on cryptocurrencies and how they fit in the larger scheme of the industry. The survey report titled’ Crypto Perception Report 2022’ was published on January 13. The survey involved 3144 US respondents aged 18 and above. Of the total respondents, 53 percent were women and 47 percent were men. The survey emphasized that though the crypto market gained mainstream adoption in 2021, it’s still a niche topic for people, and the knowledge about cryptocurrencies remains low
The survey underscored the following crucial findings :

  • On being asked about the future investment goals in crypto, the survey revealed that crypto holders are curious and cautious at the same time.
    • 47 percent of the respondents said that they don’t own crypto and don’t plan to, believing it to be a niche asset class.
    • However, about 28 percent of the respondents said that they currently owned crypto.
    • Another 25 percent said that while they don’t own crypto at the moment, they plan to buy it in the future, showing curiosity about the emerging field.
  • More than 40 percent of respondents said that they are not at all knowledgeable or not very knowledgeable of cryptocurrencies, while 28 percent said that they are only somewhat knowledgeable.
  • People were however aware about some of the top emerging trends in the crypto space, specifically non-fungible tokens(NFTs) and the metaverse.
    • 55 percent of the respondents had heard about NFTs, 53 percent were aware of Metaverse.
    • 25 percent had knowledge of DeFi, while 24 percent had heard about GameFi and Web.
    • Only 16 percent were aware of Decentralized autonomous organizations(DAOs).
  • Regarding the knowledge about cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin was the most recognizable and well-known one among the participants.
    • 83.46 percent of people had knowledge of Bitcoin, followed by 54.10 percent having knowledge of Dogecoin.
    • Ethereum was the third most well known crypto with 39.41 percent people being aware of it followed by meme coin Shiba Inu at 28.31 percent.
    • Only 14.57 percent of people had knowledge about Solana and13.01 percent knew about Cardano.
