Having yet another companion in combat can be really helpful, but the summons available through Find Familiar aren’t very strong. Choose one with some utility, like the Raven or the Cat, who can inflict status effects on enemies or distract them instead of engaging in direct combat.
Absolute Bane: When the wearer hits a creature with a weapon attack, it receives a 1d4 penalty to Attack Rolls and Saving Throws. The same penalty applies to anyone using these gloves without bearing the Absolute’s brand.
Lae’Zel : Best suited for the Battle Master subclass, Lae’Zel can almost singlehandedly handle your front line, drawing attention from enemies and able to withstand attacks better than some other classes.
Choosing the Thief Rogue subclass as a Monk will bar the player from the Shadow Strike ability (Level 11 Shadow Monk) and the Purity of Body ability (Level 10 Monk). However, it unlocks the ability to Sneak Attack, which works perfectly in tandem with the Shadow Monk’s playstyle.
The Way of the Open Hand and Way of the Four Elements have plenty of options and playability in their own right, but because Sneak Attacks and Stealth are so strong when used to initiate combat (or join it from the outside), the Way of Shadow reigns supreme.
Whether you are a Wood Elf or not, Perception is an important proficiency to have, so prioritize picking it up. Nature, Investigation, and Insight are all very useful in RP situations and for opening up new dialogue choices, too.
