Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Hints At The Zonai & Hyrule’s Terrible Past

If time travel is present in Tears of the Kingdom in some form, it carries a few implications. The first is that its version of Hyrule would be very different from BOTW . That much was already known, but if Link is getting sent back to the past, and especially if it’s as far back as the first rise of Calamity Ganon, then it could be practically unrecognizable, and have an all-new cast of characters either unrelated to those in BOTW or with only distant relations. It could also mean that players will see Ganon’s intitial rise first-hand, in addition to other events such as the construction of the Guardians and Divine Beasts, which BOTW ‘s sequel could use in unexpected ways if

While much of Hyrule’s past has been left intentionally obscured by the overarching Zelda timeline, there are shreds of details present throughout the canon games and companion books that may add deeper context to the series’ main events. Namely, the Hyrulean Civil War mentioned in Ocarina of Time and the Interloper War alluded to during Twilight Princess are two major events in Hyrule’s history that have yet to be thoroughly detailed. It’s possible that BOTW ’s First Great Calamity is actually another name for the Interloper War, which would place almost every single game on the Zelda timeline between BOTW ’s two apocalyptic Calamit

September 2022’s Nintendo Direct gave fans an exciting new glimpse of the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild . The game, which fans have been calling Breath of the Wild 2 , finally got its official name: Tears of the King

If Midna were to appear in BOTW 2 , she may not reprise her role as Link’s companion. Breath of the Wild and Twilight Princess are vastly different games, and it seems odd for her to accompany Link as she once did since he has no sidekick in the first BOTW and there’s no evidence that he will have one in the second. In addition, light is harmful to Midna, since she’s a member of the Twili race. She needs to stay in Link’s shadow whenever she’s in the world of light in Twilight Princess , so it doesn’t seem like she would follow him in a Hyrule not taken over by the Twilight. It’s more likely she would be a minor character if she returns in BOTW 2 , and be involved with a side quest or a minor questline instead of being a main character again. Alternatively, she could also appear in DLC just like her helmet did in the first BO

If Zant does appear in BOTW 2 , he could become an antagonist again. How big of a villain he would be is hard to predict, but it can be inferred based on what’s been revealed so far. The first trailer for Breath of the Wild 2 , as seen on Nintendo ‘s YouTube channel, showed a glimpse of who is presumably the main antagonist, a withered mummy believed – but not confirmed – to be Ganon sealed away deep beneath Hyrule; whether it is Ganon or not, the role of the main villain appears to be filled, so Zant doesn’t seem likely to be more than a secondary villain. It’s possible that he will become Ganon’s minion once again, and wield his Malice the same way he used Ganondorf’s power in Twilight Princess . If Zant does return as a villain in BOTW 2 , he could also be the antagonist of his own questline or DLC, like Mi

The Gorons are one of the more recognizable races in Hyrule and are known for their strong association with rocks and dwelling in the mountains beside or beneath volcanoes. These creatures possess tremendous strength that they take great pride

The machines created by Zelda ‘s Sheikah tribe were as powerful as the gods themselves, leading to a time of peace in Hyrule thanks to this advanced technology. However, the ancient Sheikah were later ordered to bury their inventions and forced into exile by the king of Hyrule at the time, who realized that his citizens feared their power and its potential to be used for evil. If Hyrule’s technology developed far enough to the point of being feared, this could also explain why the advanced machinery shown on the Surface of Skyward Sword ’s pre-Hylian world disappeared long before the story of any other Legend of Zelda game . As such, it’s not only possible for BOTW ’s First Great Calamity to take place shortly after Skyward Sword , but this placement could resolve several other questions regarding alternate dimensions Zelda ’s lore that were raised in past ga

Despite the minimal information given in the trailer for Tears of the Kingdom from the September 2022 Nintendo Direct, the imagery from the hieroglyphs suggests that the Zonai will play an important role. It also seems that Hyrule’s history will be further explored, particularly the darker portions and possibly their role in the Great Calamities. This isn’t the first time that Hyrule’s history has been referenced as being dark, but the events of that history are not always expanded upon in-g

In Zelda: Twilight Princess , Link is a simple villager who goes to rescue the children of his village. He soon encounters the Twilight, a power that strips away the light from Hyrule, and is transformed into a wolf. Link then sets off on a journey across a Hyrule swallowed up by Twilight to rescue the Light Spirits and gather the Fused Shadows with the help of Twilight Princess ‘ fan-favorite sidekick Midna . Along the way, the two rescue the lost children and aid the various races of Hyrule. Eventually, they confront Zant, one of the main antagonists, as well as his evil patron, Ganondorf. Once they’re both defeated, Midna goes home to the Twilight Realm before destroying the gateway between it and Hyrule, the Mirror of Twili
