Of the three Companion Stories currently available, Lingyang’s suffers the most. This is due to a combination of a lack of pre-existing familiarity with Lingyang and plain old bad writing. The storyline makes sense and theoretically gives interesting insights into Lingyang’s past and culture , as well as the overall lore of Wuthering Waves. However, the story is poorly translated for the player. Certain aspects, such as Lingyang’s more animalistic form, Suan-ni, don’t appear. This makes some of the more emotional notes that the game attempts to hit fall f
When playing Wuthering Waves you may need to buffer your team with some of the free characters you’ll get from playing the story. Yangyang is one of the first characters that players will receive from the story, and she’ll help teams get along until some more characters become an option. Yangyang has a few options for players to utilize in the team. She can be a hybrid or even a strictly support character if desired. When using her as support, you can utilize Yangyang’s outro skill to generate resonance energy for the next character and use her crowd-control abilities.
If you missed out on Yinlin, there are still some nice alternatives to consider. Mortefi also fits nicely in a team with Jinshi and her kit does have nice synergy with his. Mortefi will buff her heavy attacks and since her heavy attack isn’t a trigger for any bigger moves, you’ll end up using it a lot to extend combos and keep enemies airborne for as long as possible. The only downside with using Mortefi is that he has a longer Resonance Liberation cooldown than most characters, so when you do switch him in and out, sometimes he might not have his Resonance Liberation available for use. Regardless, he is still a solid character to pair Jinshi with.
Moreover, you can use the Crownless echo on this unit, which deals high AoE damage with her ability. All of this combined with some beautiful animations and a nuke Liberation makes them a great F2P-friendly opt
If you are unable to use these 5-star options, you can also use the Broadblade #41 or Helios Cleaver 4-star weapons. Broadblade #41 will increase attack by 12% when Jinshi’s HP is over 80% and if her HP is below 40%, the weapon will heal 5% from dealing damage with basic or heavy attacks . Broadblade #41’s healing can only be triggered 1 time every 8 seconds . Helios Cleaver, the next 4-star option, will increase attack by 3% every 2 seconds once the Resonance Skill is used. Both of these weapons are good 4-star weapons to get your Jinshi build ready to do some damage until you’ve gotten a viable 5-star option.
Verina or Baizhi will be your best options for healing. Since Wuthering Waves launched, they’ve been the two standout healers and are relatively close in how their kits operate. Verina is a 5-star that buffs the entire team, while Baizhi is a 4-star character only capable of buffing the next character swapped in. Neither will hit quite as hard as any dps, but it is still very nice if either one of them is on the team to heal up any damage that comes your way. Both healers have insanely quick rotations and will allow you to bring Jinshi back onto the field as fast as possible for more damage.
Another feature of his quest is that it’s quite a bit longer than the two other Companion Story quests. It’s split into three separate quests, each with its own smaller story — one even featuring Mortefi, another playable character. This also helps the quality of Jiyan’s Story quest, as the linearity allows for more room for the story to deve
When considering weapons for Yangyang, you’ll want to know what sort of build you are going for. In a hybrid role for her, you’ll want to use the Emerald of Genesis 5-star weapon. Emerald of Genesis will increase Energy Regen by 12.8%, and her attack will be increased by 6% when the Resonance Skil is released. The attack buff can stack up to 2 times and last 10 seconds. This is a very solid choice for Yangyang and will perfectly suit a hybrid role for her.
Another good choice for a hybrid build weapon will be the Lunar Cutter 4-star. This will give Yangyang 6 stacks of a buff named Oath when entering battle. Every Oath stack will increase her attack by 2% and can be triggered 1 time every 12 seconds . Every 2 seconds , the Oath buff will go down by 1 stack , but when defeating an enemy, all stacks will be replenished. This is a good choice if you’re looking to keep Yangyang’s time on the field to a bare minimum, since Yangyang can use her kit fairly quickly and effectively, this is going to be a really nice option to keep her field time optimal for other characters do start dealing some heavy damage and gain her outro skill buff.
Jianxin or Yinlin also work well with Yuanwu as another alternate dps character option. The only issue is that Jianxin has a variety of builds and some of them will come at the cost of her overall damage. Yinlin can deal a ton of damage quickly but also needs to be swapped out often to take advantage of intro skills and various buffs from other characters. Using either of these options will require you to play a quicker style and swap characters frequently. It’s a fun and unique way to play the game, but it won’t be ideal for Wuwa everyone.
