Does Apple CEO Tim Cook own cryptocurrency? Which one?

Apple CEO Tim Cook said Tuesday he has invested in cryptocurrency, hinting that he might own some Bitcoin or Ethereum.

Cook spoke at The New York Times DealBook conference with Andrew Ross Sorkin about cryptocurrency, according to CNBC. Sorkin asked Cook if he owned Bitcoin or Ethereum.

  • “I do. I think it’s reasonable to own it as part of a diversified portfolio,” he said, per CNBC. “I’m not giving anyone investment advice by the way.”
  • Cook said he’s been interested in cryptocurrency coins “for a while.” He said he invested from a “personal point of view” after researching the topic.

Cook’s reveal comes as both Bitcoin and Ethereum hit all-time highs in value, according to CNN. Both coins exceeded expert expectations, reaching milestone Tuesday.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, a noted cryptocurrency investor, said last week that Ethereum has the best upside of any cryptocurrency.

  • “As an investment, I think Ethereum has the most upside,” he said.
  • Cuban said he wished he invested in Ethereum sooner because he sees it as “a true currency,” he told CNBC.
