The victim, officials said, will eventually come to believe after regular communication that the other person cares for them. The scammer then convinces the victim to purchase cryptocurrency through a legitimate exchange like Coinbase or Binance. At this point, the victim may not suspect anything as they are able to see their purchase in an online account, authorities said.
